The Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) has called on UK firms toapply for match–funding for research and development of automotive technology and processes.
Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, will work with the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC) to invest up to £25 million in innovation projects.
Eligible projects should support the UK’s transition towards zero–emission vehicles by growing supply chain capability and automotive product manufacturing, it said.
The aim of the competition is to support research and development projects that design, develop, and manufacture technology, with proposals working towards delivering zero-emission on-vehicle technologies for on or off-road vehicles, including two-wheelers.
The project must contribute to the UK’s strategic zero-emission transport aims, support its vision and capabilities by securing long term R&D investment, safeguard high value jobs, as well as achieve the design and manufacturing of zero-emission vehicles.
Individual projects can claim a grant between £2.5 million and £20 million (any award is subject to Ministerial and His Majesty’s Treasury approval). Applicants must be working with a consortium of UK-registered organisations, including at least one SME with a clear route to market at the end of the project for your product.
Projects must be in energy storage, fuel cells, electric machines, power electronics, fossil-fuel-free internal combustion, hydrogen, circular economy and digitisation for vehicle development and design.
In this funding round, a new increased focus on digitalisation is included in the competition scope, it said.
